It’s always interesting to talk with guests and find out how they ended up at Udekki! For many it is because of TripAdvisor; for others it is on the recommendation of a friend, or they’ve been before. But Jimmy and Denise’s story is a little different – and we love it!
Jimmy and Denise were driving near their home in south London, when a young girl waved them over, asking for directions. In the end they gave her a ride and as they were driving along she asked if they were thinking of going on holiday soon. Jimmy and Denise weren’t sure. They hadn’t been away for a while but had no definite plans. Anyway, this young girl started talking about her recent trip to Sri Lanka and animatedly described the great time she and her boyfriend had had at a place called Udekki. She wrote the word ‘Udekki’ down on a scrap of cardboard and left it in the vehicle as she got out. Jimmy and Denise did not even have a chance to get her name.
Somehow that scrap piece of cardboard ended up in the conservatory on the ‘junk’ table. You know – that table that we all have where anything and everything gets piled, and every so often someone comes through and throws the whole lot out.
And, somehow that tiny scrap survived. Around spring last year, Jimmy found it again, and did some research on TripAdvisor. He began talking to Denise about the possibility of going to Sri Lanka. Denise was a little uncertain at first – but then she began to email and cement their plans.
And after such a serendipitous meeting, Udekki has had the pleasure of Jimmy and Denise staying for the past 2½ weeks! And it has been a pleasure for everyone! The new ambalama is now ‘Jimmy Ambalama’ and I think Jimmy has the record for the most fishing trips without catching a fish! And we’re so looking forward to welcoming them back next year!
