The Udekki dogs, part 2 – Girl

Girl….

IMG_9819

What is there to say? A slightly cantankerous beach dog with white socks, who constantly wags her tail, and is known for her bark! But look at those puppy dog eyes!

Girl was on the fringes of Udekki for a long time. Another one who discovered that life at Udekki was better than the fishing village. For the last 2 years I have been trying to get a proper collar on her – all we can manage is a ribbon. She was tied up for hours in the sun with no water hence her fear of having anything around her neck. And although she loves attention she will often cower as though she is expecting something bad.

As she was always on the fringes we had not been able to get her desexed. And then it was too late! She was obviously very pregnant! August 18 months ago she had 8 puppies, yes 8! And she’s not the biggest dog! She had them in the trees behind the beach between Udekki and the navy base. Fortunately we were able to find homes for 7 of her puppies, and of course we then got her vaccinated and desexed – and then that’s when she decided that life at Udekki was the better option! Strawberry was her one puppy that we didn’t initially find a home for, and he became one of the Udekki dogs. Yes, it is a ‘he’ despite the name.

Girl has become a little calmer and a little more used to life with people and with other dogs. But she is still the best guard dog at night! Despite this sometimes fierce front, she loves attention and will often run inside just to say hello and to enjoy a pat! Every morning she is upstairs ready for breakfast with the other dogs. She is the most delicate eater, and always waits for permission and a little attention before eating.

We have no idea how old Girl is, but she is now well and truly one of the Udekk dogs. She eagerly awaits the traditional sunset beach walk – and will come and find you if you’re not there in time!

the postcard – a lost art?

Udekki POST 2When was the last time you sent a postcard? If you’re like many of the guests that stay at Udekki, it’s been a long time!

Well, we’re trying to change that! When guests arrive at Udekki, they are given postcards with some of our favourite photos. They are then invited to write on them, and we will post them; or they can keep them to take home and share with family and friends.

Some of the responses from guests include:

* Wow! What a good idea!

* We can send one to Nana and Papa!

* I haven’t sent a postcard for years!

And so far we’ve had quite a few people take up our offer! Postcards have been sent to Holland, the UK, Germany, France, Denmark and beyond.

The photos show some of our current postcards, with favourite Udekki photos!Udekki POST 3
